History of Theta Xi

From the"Diaries of Bro. Harold Jean-Louis"

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated, Theta Xi Chapter was introduced to the Syracuse University Campus in 1975. At that time, the Charter Line of five Brothers established the foundation to uphold the ideals of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.

Since 1975, Theta Xi Chapter has practiced and promoted the ideals and principles of our Fraternity. Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated is an international organization, which emphasizes Brotherhood, Scholarship and service subsequently, so does our chapter. We place a high premium on having a Strong Brotherhood. Brotherhood has long been our basis of strength and will always be our most sought after quality when looking for new members to our illustrious Theta Xi legacy.

Scholarship is also a very meaningful principle of the Fraternity/Chapter. We pride ourselves on having an impeccable academic record of achievement, inside and outside of the classroom.   We recognize that we are here as students first, and our primary goal is to earn a degree. Notwithstanding our position as students in recent years, the Chapter has created several forums to inform and educate the campus of pertinent issues. Our annual "Race Relations" forum is a collaboration of eight different fraternity and sororities comprised of different ethnicities. We select a student panel to oversee the program. This panel discusses relevant historical and present day racial matters on campus and throughout the world.

Service to the campus and our global community are important to our Chapter. The Brothers of the Theta Xi chapter participate in annual community service projects, such as the "Crop Walk", Relay for Life, and Lift-o-thon for Leukemia & Lymphoma Foundation. Brothers also partake in individual community service initiatives, with the goal of uplifting the local Syracuse community that is often neglected.

The Theta Xi Chapter takes pride in sponsoring other Annual Events, such as Jazz Nite and Evening of Black Expressions. The Evening of Black Expressions was formed in 1982 to provide an outlet for the many talented students of color on this campus. This is the Chapter's attempt to showcase this sometimes hidden talent to the campus and community.

Since 1975, Theta Xi chapter has exemplified the ideals of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated. We are constantly trying to promote the ideals on a chapter level. We are proud of our past and have the confidence to move toward the future adding value to our Chapter and Fraternity and to our global community.
